Helsing's Restaurant

An exuberant example of midcentury architecture is Helsing's Restaurant, built on the north west corner of Osborn and Central in 1959.

One of two Phoenix locations designed by Arizona's first Chinese-American architect, John Sing Tang, it was a stunning display of Googie style. The mid-town building survived until 1991 when it was replaced with a Walgreens.

The other Helsing's was stationed on the corner of Camelback and Central (where an Applebees sits today), in Phoenix's first major shopping center, Uptown Plaza, built by Del Webb, completed and opened in 1955.
