Goin' Home
On the corner of Central and Van Buren with the Westward Ho to the north.
--In December 1974, a new Christmas episode of the trucker-oriented TV show Movin On debuted. Called Goin Home, it was a two-parter shot on location in the Phoenix area--Phoenix being the hometown of Sonny Pruitt who is played by Claude Akins. Watching it recently, I was struck by the quality of outdoor light in some of the scenes, which seemed instantly familiar and uniquely Valley of the Sun. Then there are the landmarks: Westward Ho, Phoenix Union High School, Scottsdale Airport, the recently-built Valley National Bank Center (now Chase Tower) and many street scenes, neighborhoods, and interiors...Grab the popcorn and enjoy!
