Maryvale Model Homes

John F. Long, one of the early giants in Phoenix's suburban development, began creating Maryvale (named after his wife Mary) from the ground up in the mid 1950s. Here are the original model homes on display at the first home show in the Valley:

Maryvale has seen better days. It displaced the long reign of South Phoenix as the most violent, gang-troubled neighborhood in the Valley, although violent crime has abated there somewhat in the last few years according to statistics.
